Barbados lovely island in the Caribbean.

20 juni 2019 - Piarco, Trinidad en Tobago

If you like nature, beautiful beaches, great food, talking english and friendly people come and visit Barbados!

We had a splendid time here again.

We kunnen geen genoeg krijgen van dit uitzicht !

Visited the first week the northern part and we stayed the last week in the south.

We went to Speightown where we saw the ‘ great national heritage mural’ about the history of the island.

One day we are going to try again ! Catamaran sailing ! Nice !In deze pub geweest in Speightown.Mural in Speightown

Barbados painted by John Pugh and Don Small. Called ‘ The Bridge of Tides’ .

They call this mural here a trompe- l’oeil painting overlooking ancient Speightown, once known as little Bristol . They used realistic imagery to create an optical illusion.

Pierre Spenard ?

Because I studied history in Bristol in the nineties I really enjoyed being in little Bristol this time.

What did we see?

Centuries of history are revealed in Harrison’s Cave which is millions of years old. From the indigenous Kalinaga to Independence in 1966.

Pierre Spenard’s vision, interpreted by John Pugh, evokes the geology of Barbados and the wonder of Harrison’s Cave on this ancient, 80 by 20 feet battered wall.

Bridgetown - slavery

The giant caves of coral limestone provide the backdrop for this account of the history of Barbados.

A bridge represents thousands of years, from pre- history through the age of the indigenous Arawaks, to modern times.

The artists depicts symbols and people. Arawaks , settlement, slaves and slave ships, the bearded fig tree and Christianity. We see the Morgan Lewis Windmills, the old railway, fishing boats and Sir Grantley Adams.

Errol Barrow appears , breaking the trident and claiming Independence.

There are golf courses, the University of the West Indies and the famous cricketer Sir Garfield Sobers.

So now you know a little bit about Barbados because of this great mural!

We loved spending time on Pebbles Beach , Carlize bay ...That beach is supurb. Clean, clear and lovely water. In the early mornings the jockies are running their horses there. Fab to see.

Swimming at our favorite beach ! Pebbles beach !Collection of great seasells.Barbados - Pebbles beach best swimming spot ever.

We enjoyed Holetown and the buzz of all the vendors there.

Pleased to stay with Ruth again in Pura Vida ! She has some great appartments there!

Speightown streets. Very colorfull.

Our stay in Valere appartments Hastings was good too. Heym the Dutch owner is a real character. His younger girlfriend Paula was very friendly too. We had some nice talks together.

She adores the sea and seashells too. I gave her some of my findings . Because those seasells were too big and too risky to take with me.

The neighbours houses are stunning too! By the way. I write the names doen for maybe an other time ?

The day after we went to the George Washington museum.

George his younger brother James had to recover from his illness -here in Barbados . He suffered of Tuberculosis.

And James died young , after two years I thought so ....

It was special to see a 18th century house again.

✅Barbados had slavery too. Some slaves had to walk with five kilos around their necks! Cruel!

Slaven had je ook veelvuldig op Barbados. But it is important to teach everybody about the horrible time! Good they had a big section about this. After the museum visit....

Mary and I drank a coffee together in de Barbados coffee house . Lovely spot, with a great view!

The last two weeks I enjoyed making these sandsculptures. With my ADHD it relaxes my mind. 😜😘👍🏽.

Making new sandcreatures.

Also doing Yoga helps me a lot . It calms me. 🙏🏽.

Now we are in Port of Spain. They canceled our Flight !!! We stay in the Star hotel.

Berry wrote this poem in Dutch :

‘De gestrande toerist’

Ohh oh oh wat een chagrijn

Want we hadden al

Lang thuis kunnen zijn!

Nu moeten we alleen maar wachten en misschien hier ook nog overnachten

Alleen al het idee .

Het leven van een gestrande toerist valt niet mee.
