UB 40 lockdown afternoon ! Listen to their songs
5 september 2020 - Paramaribo, Suriname
Today we choose to listen to UB40.
Because we both like reggae music !
We both didn’t know that the name UB40 means this :
The name UB40 is taken from a former form from the British social services to apply for unemployment benefit (UB = Unemployment Benefit). From 40 .
A lot of the musicians were unemployed.
So UB40 was something they were into ...
The band has a strong multicultural character, both musically and in origin; its members are rooted in England, Scotland, Ireland, Jamaica and Yemen.
Maybe I shouldn’t start with our top 10 list .
But maybe you can relate to it .
My Number 10 list was this : ( Roliena )
Red red wine
I’ve got you babe
Please don’t make ne cry
Kingston Town
Homely girl
Don’t break my Heart
If it happens again
Where did i go wrong
Tears in my eyes
Rat in my kitchen
Berry his Number ten was :
Food for thought
Here I am
One in ten
Kingston town
Maybe Tomorrow
Pillow
Sardonicus
Many rivers to cross
Our house
Rat in the kitchen
We both liked Rat in the kitchen .
Berry said it is about ‘ - adultery’ ‘. But I think it is about not being really clean in your kitchen .We both know it is all symbolic .
We started with listening to the music and we tried to find out which songs they covered .
It was interesting. So many songs are cover songs !
So we started with rat in mi kitchen .
A lot of songs are about the ‘ love life ‘ .
Our house , you can also hear with the band Madness . Nice Ska music .
Where did I go wrong ... I lot of people think of this when they split up🙂.
Dino Merlín from Bosnië 🇧🇦 Sung it as well in Mjesecina.
Nice to hear . This version.
Many rivers to cross was a beautiful song we both liked .
Then we followed with ‘ If it happen again ‘ it was an own song fully written by themselves.
It is a political song .
✅ the song was written as the group's response to Margaret Thatcher's Conservative Party's victory in the 1983 UK election. It contains the lines "If it happens again I'm leaving, I'll pack my things and go... I won't say I told you so" and is considered a protest song of the time.
Sardinius was a less popular song .
It is about a special facial look.
Facial muscles may cause a characteristic expression called Risus sardonicus (from the Latin for scornful laughter) or Risus caninus (from the Latin for doglike laughter or grinning). This facial expression has also been observed among patients with tetanus.... Just listen to the song . It might get your face in a certain move ... 😘. Some lyricus ....
‘
A human statue made of living stone
A paradox etched in human bone
If you could look behind his thin disguise
There's a hidden glint of madness in his eyes
Many men are fooled by his smile
His superficial grace his charm his style
Sardonicus is everybody's friend
Sardonicus keeps smiling to the end’ .
If it happens again is about Margareth Thatcher who was elected again. They wanted to see how it will go again ...
Pillow was a song which was not so well known . We both think it is about prostitués.
When you read the following lines :
“ You might intérpreted it yourself ...
Taking drugs was not for fun
It made her feel like going on
But now she hurts when its all gone
And she turns her head to the pillow
She take a blade and breaks her skin
Sweet life force flows from within
The white clouds in her head grow dim
And she turns her head to the pillow «.
[Chorus]
Sunlight creeps across her head
Pale beauty in a crimson bed
No dreams of happy days ahead
She'll have no more tomorrows.
The song ‘ Don’t break my Heart ‘ says enough !
If you like Somebody so madly you are scared that they will break your Heart . ❤️.
Homely girl is about a ‘ plain girl’ or Somebody who likes to stay in ‘ Let’s say a covid 2020’person who don’t mind total lockdowns at all because they love to be at home!!!!
Don’t forget ‘ Where did I go wrong .... a lot of people think about this :
Where did I go wrong to make it like this?
No warmth in your body, no touch in your kiss
Holding you now, hurts more than it should
If I let you go, girl, you'll be gone for good
There's nothin' worth sayin', I know you're not staying
Might as well face it, it's out of my hands
No point in pretending, I know that it's ending
I just wanna know where the ending began
Kingstown town we both loved ! So it was both on our list .
The UB 40 members all loved to go there! It is a Nice place in Jamaica 🇯🇲.
Het nummer gaat over een droomplek: Kingston Town. De zanger van het nummer verlangt ernaar om erheen te gaan, en er koning te worden, met alles dat daarbij hoort.
We forgot about ‘ Maybe tomorrow’ !
The Jackson five sings this as well.
But the original song is from The Iveys !
Een mooie ‘ slow song ‘ .
Please don’t make me cry stond op nummer 3.
Het originele nummer is van Winston Groovy.
Het is een gospel song . Ook best mooi om naar te luisteren .
Here I am . Mocht natuurlijk niet ontbreken .
I ‘ve got you babe . Was mijn nummer twee.
Have a good evening !
‘ I’ve have got you babe ‘ 🎶🎵
Make the best of every day! Please ♾💟

Miss you . X Ro
